Music of the Sixties

Posted by slrichardson on September 22, 2008

Talk about talent!  The sixties were packed with a musical revolution.  Much of this can be attributed to larger societal changes.  Youth were becoming more vocal.  Questioning authority ruled.

Sticking with music…here is an early clip of The Beatles (from 1962) with “Love Me Do”

And now an obvious shift–

“Revolution”

and, “Strawberry Fields Forever”

Just within the music of The Beatles, you can experience drastic changes throughout the sixties.  (Beatles Timeline)

And of course, there’s Woodstock

Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock–perfect studying music!

You could see the progression of the beatles through their style from the first video to Strawberries Fields Forever. In the first video I didn’t notice any hidden messages of drugs and in the last video I kind of notice some, unless I’m over thinking it. After the female in class made it salient that some people may have stretched the notion a bit it is making me overthink whether I do notice drug innuendo or not.

Interesting, remember the paranoia of the 80’s? I wonder if this whole “hidden message thing” was a foretaste of what was to come. Although, there was definitely plenty of music in the 60s & 70s about drugs–explicit and hidden.
